A man with an ax and a sword tried to get into The New York Times’ Manhattan office building on Thursday, police told the Associated Press.
The New York Police Department confirmed to the AP that the man found his way into the lobby of the newspaper’s 8th Avenue office building. He wanted to speak to the outlet’s political journalists, the NYPD told the AP.
The man then handed over his weapons after he was denied entry and was later taken to the hospital for evaluation, The AP reported.
A representative for The Times told the AP they were grateful to the NYPD “for responding to an incident in our lobby that was resolved quickly and peacefully.”
The New York Times and the NYPD did not immediately respond to Insider.
