The Masters Food Prices Compared to Super Bowl, World Series

  • The Masters Tournament began Thursday in Augusta, Georgia.
  • Concession prices for the famous golf event have been historically reasonable throughout its 89-year history.
  • Major sporting events like the Super Bowl, US Open, and MLB World Series all boast much higher food prices.

The Masters Tournament is in full swing, and its concession menu is getting attention for its surprisingly cheap prices for a major sporting event.

The annual golf tournament is considered one of the hardest sporting events to acquire tickets to — second only to the Super Bowl — despite the availability of reasonably priced tickets through a lottery system on the Masters website.

Those who miss out on the annual lottery report paying thousands on the secondary market, but once they make it to Augusta National Golf Club, they could purchase the entire concession menu of the Masters for just $66.

At golf’s most famous tournament, you can purchase a domestic beer for $5 and a sandwich for as low as $1.50. In other professional sports leagues, like the NFL, MLB, and tennis, refreshments at their major events can cost nearly triple.

Super Bowl LVII

Super Bowl LVII was held at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium in February when the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles faced off.

Attendees who were lucky enough to score a ticket to the championship game paid no less than $6.50 for a bottle of water at concession stands, compared to $2 at the 2023 Masters. When it comes to snacks, peanuts cost $7 at the State Farm Stadium, but are just $1.50 at Augusta National.

For beer and wine drinkers, the difference is just as stark. A cup of domestic beer and white wine at the Masters cost $5 and $6, respectively, while a domestic tall boy at the most recent Super Bowl was $16 and wine was listed at $12.

MLB World Series

For professional baseball events like the MLB World Series, prices of food and drink depends on the stadium. The most recent series was held at the fields of the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies. According to ESPN, a 20-ounce domestic beer at the Astros’ Minute Maid Park costs about $11.40, and the same amount at the Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park is about $12.80.

A 16-ounce bottle of water at each stadium cost attendees just under $5, per ESPN.

US Open

Insider’s Rachel Askinasi attended the 2022 US Open in Queens, New York and documented the steep cost of food — ranging from an $8.50 scoop of ice cream to chicken tenders for $24. According to the report, drink options at the annual tennis event included $17 glasses of wine, $14.50 beer, and $6 bottles of water.

However, unlike many other major sporting events, the US Open permits guests to bring their own food and drinks into the tournament with some restrictions, helping attendees curb costs.
