- Alex Jones is holding onto firearms for January 6 rioters, The Washington Post reported.
- Jones filed for bankruptcy after a judge ordered he pays the families of Sandy Hook victims.
- The controversial talk show host had been subpoenaed for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
InfoWars conspiracy theorist Alex Jones reported that he’s holding onto guns for two January 6th rioters, according to bankruptcy paperwork obtained by The Washington Post.
The document required that he identify property in his possession that he does not own. Among the items, Jones wrote that he’s “holding firearms for certain January 6th participants,” the document reads, per the Post.
Jones recently told HuffPost that he is holding onto weapons for InfoWars War Room host Owen Shroyer and video editor Sam Montoya. Shroyer and Montoya were two of more than a thousand people charged in the Capitol riot so far.
“Both their lawyers respectively asked us if they could store those guns here while the cases were going on,” Jones told the outlet. “Due to the request of their lawyers, we have … stored the guns here.”
Jones had been subpoenaed by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 insurrection for his part in organizing the “Stop the Steal” rally that preceded the riot.
Insider was unable to confirm how many firearms he is in possession of or where they are being kept. Jones did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Jones, 49, baselessly spread the false claim to his followers that the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting — the deadliest school shooting in US history where 20 students and six adults died — wasn’t real.
Jones filed for bankruptcy in December after he was ordered by a judge to pay $473 million in punitive damages and nearly $1 billion in compensatory damages to the families of the victims in October and November of last year. Before Jones was ordered to pay the families, InfoWars had also filed for bankruptcy, but only after it transferred millions to other entities.
According to the bankruptcy filing, in 2021 Jones reported making a gross income of $617,143.02 and approximately $639,000 in 2020. The filing also states that he has assets worth approximately $10 million, per the Post.
Jones has said he has less than 1% of what he owes and has asked viewers of his InfoWars podcast to donate funds, Insider previously reported.
