Trump Campaign Official Charged With First-Degree Sex Abuse in Alabama

Donald Trump’s 2016 Alabama campaign co-chair has been charged with first-degree sex abuse. 

Perry Oliver Hooper Jr., a former Alabama state representative and the son of former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Perry Hooper Sr., is facing felony charges stemming from an undisclosed incident that allegedly took place on August 16, reports local outlet Alabama.com. 

Alabama Republican Party officials condemned all forms of “sexual abuse and sexual assault” in an official statement, adding that they planned to monitor “this situation closely as it makes its way through the judicial process.”  

US Marshals reportedly took Hooper Jr. into custody on Tuesday. His bail has been set at $15,000. 

Hooper Jr. served as one of Alabama’s at-large delegates during the 2016 Republican National Convention.
