Bank of America Adviser Ousted After Rant Is Hired by Aegis Capital

(Bloomberg) — A former Bank of America Corp. financial adviser who was ousted after a smoothie-shop tirade that was caught on video is now working at broker-dealer Aegis Capital Corp.

Financial Industry Regulatory Authority data shows James Iannazzo registered with New York-based Aegis Capital as of March 15. The entry doesn’t specify his position at the company, and a representative for Aegis Capital couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Bank of America fired Iannazzo after a video of him shouting expletives and insults at a Connecticut Robeks outlet circulated widely on social media in January. The incident occurred after Iannazzo ordered a drink without peanut butter for his son, who has a peanut allergy, according to a statement from the Fairfield Police Department. He left the store, but returned to confront employees after his son had an allergic reaction that sent him to the hospital, police said.

A video shot from behind the counter shows a man shouting and using expletives, and throwing a drink at an employee, including calling a worker a “f—ing immigrant loser.” According to police, Iannazzo asked that the drink be made without peanut butter, but never told the shop’s workers about his son’s allergy. Iannazzo, who left before officers arrived and later turned himself in, was arrested and accused of intimidation based on bigotry or bias, trespassing and breaching the peace.

His Finra records show a criminal charge for the Jan. 22 incident. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 8, according to an online case summary.

A lawyer for Iannazzo, Eugene Riccio, declined to comment on the new role.

Iannazzo’s hiring by Aegis was reported this week by Financial Advisor and other news outlets.
