Elon Musk has become one of the biggest shareholders in Twitter after a filing revealed that the tech entrepreneur had taken a 9.2 per cent stake in the social media company.
The filing on Monday from the US Securities and Exchange Commission revealed the surprise move by the chief executive of Tesla, the electric carmaker.
The SEC filing was signed by Musk and dated Monday.
Musk did not immediately make any statement about his reasons for buying the shares.
The entrepreneur’s use of Twitter has often proved contentious in the past, when he has used it to make statements about Tesla’s financial health.
